GST invoice automation tools for Tally users — an honest comparison

Facts verified 11 June 2026 from each vendor's own pages. We build MoneyMistri, so read our take with that in mind — every claim below is attributed, and prices change, so check the vendors' pages before deciding.

By Himanshu Bhatnagar, Founder, MoneyMistri

The job we're comparing is specific: a purchase bill arrives (PDF, scan, photo) → its data is extracted and validated against GST rules → a human reviews → a clean Purchase Voucher lands in Tally Prime — and ideally, the books that result tell the owner something useful. Plenty of excellent software does a different job and gets recommended for this one anyway. That's the confusion this page tries to clear up.

Short version: most of these do a different job. TaxOne is a CA-practice suite; ClearTax is built for enterprise GST filing and won't put purchase vouchers into Tally; Zoho Books is a separate accounting system you'd move to instead of Tally — a one-way door. The budget tools — TrulyInvoice, KhataClerk, and TaskAutomate — do the bill-to-voucher step, but with arithmetic-only checks and no owner visibility. The job this page is about — bills captured, validated against GST rules, human-reviewed, verified into Tally, and books that show the owner where money leaks — is the one MoneyMistri was built for, with the owner (not just the accountant) as a first-class user.

Vyapar TaxOne (formerly Suvit) — the CA-practice suite

TaxOne is the most established direct competitor on this pipeline: document collection over WhatsApp, AI extraction, a validation grid, human review, bulk push to Tally via a desktop connector, plus GSTR-1/2A/2B/IMS reconciliation. It was acquired by Vyapar in late 2025 and rebranded. It is also unambiguously built for tax professionals: the discounts are literally profession-gated (50% for CAs), billing is annual-only, and the business owner appears as the client being managed, not the user. If you run a practice, evaluate it seriously. If you run a business and want to see your own books, you're not who it's for.

ClearTax — compliance powerhouse, wrong direction for this job

ClearTax's GST reconciliation and filing stack is genuinely strong, and its enterprise AP product (ClearCapture) does AI invoice extraction. But on the specific job here, the geometry is wrong: its Tally connectors move data out of Tally for filing, or write IRN/QR codes back onto sales invoices. We found no path that creates purchase vouchers in Tally — the accounting entry still has to be typed by someone. ClearCapture is scoped (by their own pages) to enterprises with tens of thousands of vendor invoices a year, integrated via REST/SFTP projects, and its pages never mention Tally.

Zoho Books — a good suite that requires leaving Tally

Zoho Books is a mature accounting platform with real in-product GST filing, and its pricing (free tier up to ₹25L revenue, paid from ₹749/mo annual) is aggressive. The catch is structural: the official Tally path is a one-time migration out of Tally, and no Books→Tally sync exists — Zoho's own community threads show firms doing duplicate manual entry because their CA works in Tally. Its document Autoscan captures date/amount/merchant, not line-item GST validation. If your CA requires Tally — the reality for most Indian SMBs — Zoho Books isn't an automation tool for your books; it's a different accounting system.

TrulyInvoice, KhataClerk, TaskAutomate — the budget pipes

TrulyInvoice (₹599/mo, unlimited vouchers) is the closest feature-for-feature analogue: Gemini-based extraction, a mandatory review screen, port-9000 Tally connector. Its GST checks are arithmetic and format-level, and there's no owner-facing analytics — but at that price it's a serious option for a pure data-entry pipe.

KhataClerk (₹1,500–3,000/mo) advertises the right workflow — extract, review, post to Tally via a “Bridge” — with WhatsApp/email forwarding. It's also about four months old as a product (domain registered February 2026), with no verifiable customers, reviews, or documentation of how the Tally integration works. That may change; today, you'd be an early adopter.

TaskAutomate documents its “Tally Bridge” architecture in unusual detail (approval-gated cloud queue, local Windows service, port-9000 XML). But its pricing page doesn't load actual plans, its own blog posts contradict each other on price, no legal entity or team is named anywhere on the site, and its testimonials could not be matched to identifiable companies. For software that touches your purchase ledger, that's a trust profile to weigh carefully.

Where MoneyMistri sits

MoneyMistri runs the same core pipeline — upload, AI extraction, review, Tally sync — with three deliberate differences. First, the owner is a first-class user: pricing is per GSTIN with a free Starter plan, not profession-gated, and the workspace is built for an owner and their accountant to share. Second, validation is deterministic and blocking: GSTIN checksums, tax-mode conflicts, and totals consistency gate every voucher before it can reach Tally, and the review queue is driven by those findings. Third, the pipeline doesn't end at “voucher posted” — current, validated books are what make money leaks visible: missed ITC, duplicate payments, dues nobody chased. Sync success is verified by reading the voucher back from Tally, and every paid plan starts with a month free.

So where does this leave you? Practice-management across dozens of clients, enterprise return-filing, or moving off Tally entirely are different jobs for different products — not what this page is about. But for the job most Indian businesses actually have — getting this month's purchase bills validated and into Tally, with the owner able to see what the numbers mean — that is exactly what MoneyMistri is built for, and what the others, by their own design, are not.

Judge it on your own bills.
